The Eureka Education Initiative

Eureka Child is an AID India initiative that has a single objective: Quality Education for Every Child , every single one of the ten million children in the state of Tamil Nadu, India.

The Eureka Education Initiatives span across a wide range of areas:

Most children in villages have no access to educational materials and books. Children can neither access books at home nor at school. Most villages have no running libraries. School textbooks are the only books that many children have ever laid hands on. It is no surprise in this context that 65% children in 3rd-5th std in schools cannot read a paragraph in Tamil (their first language)! Access to attractive good quality educational materials and books is the first step to getting children to read. Attractive books makes children see what is there to read – makes them want to read. To encourage reading habit in primary school children and to ensure all children get access to quality books are the two primary goals of the Eureka Child Library Program.

In order to supplement these projects with supply of learning materials, and to keep alive a quest for learning at the level of pre-primary/primary standards within rural children, we (AID India) run the Eureka Child Library program. This Wiki is an action base to enable visitors and volunteers to track and connect with this program, and aims at providing a center of collection of learning materials that visitors/volunteers wish to share/write.

Today, the Eureka Child Library program currently reaches over 120,000 children in 2300 villages across 17 districts of Tamilnadu. The program is implemented by a network of 60 NGOs working under our guidance. That's not surprising, given our recognitions in the space.
